Garden Party in Turtle Bay

My old roommate, Kate, throws a garden party every year at her grandparents' brownstone in Turtle Bay, a neighborhood on the east side of midtown Manhattan. Most of the lovely brownstones in this area have been torn down to make room for the ugly highrise buildings that make up the rest of midtown. Kate's grandparents, however, have lived in this house for over 51 years! It was beautiful, but the garden is definitely the highlight. Each of the surrounding homes has its own private garden with a shared path that runs down what would be the alley:

What a strange, beautiful oasis in loud, cramped, icky Midtown.

(I know. I'm not a huge Midtown fan. But this is a lovely neighborhood!).

A few storms rolled in and the party moved inside, to the library on the second floor. It was impossible to not look regal in the library.

We spent the rest of the evening frequenting various places in the East Village (here and here to name a few) but took a second to look at this beautiful sky:
